Retrain Your Brain

with the Language of Success!

On the Horizon

Have you mastered the language of success? To achieve the best results in life, we need to carefully and consciously craft our experiences. Just like anything else in life, we must ensure we have the proper ingredients to avoid common success mistakes and achieve the desired outcome.

One of the most effective ways of changing our experiences is to make conscious changes in our habitual language patterns.

By changing our language, we can change the way we think, act, and experience life - purposeful language produces purposeful results! With a little practice, we can learn to master the conscious language of success.

Remember – it’s important to pay attention to our choice of words in order to clarify to ourselves, and others, exactly what we mean!

Steps to Success

Step 1 – Become conscious of your habitual language patterns.
Start taking notice of the words you consistently use to describe your experiences. Many words we use to describe our experiences are particularly vague, and therefore, very limiting.

One of the largest categories of misuse is in describing our emotions. We tend to use general language that lumps experiences into several broad categories. For example, if we say we are feeling depressed, we could in fact be feeling bored, tired, disillusioned, apathetic, directionless, discontent, reflective, disappointed, or lonely.

To use an example of a positive emotion: If we say we are feeling happy, we may in fact be feeling excited, inspired, joyful, rewarded, satisfied, successful, empowered, loved, appreciated, validated, optimistic, or enchanted.

Step 2 – Retrain Your Brain!
Decide on an alternative experience you would like to create, and choose words that better match up with that experience. Consider carefully what it is that you are trying to express with your words. On-target language will consistently produce on-target results!

Step 3 – Practice! Practice! Practice!
Any new practice will feel awkward until it becomes a natural part of your lifestyle. It will take time to become accustomed to using your new language patterns, so remember not to give up too soon! If some of your intentional new word choices sound silly or unnatural, it’s okay to chuckle at yourself – it will relieve stress and remind you that creative language can be fun!

Here are some additional tips for mastering the language of success:

  • Always choose specific language over general language
  • Choose direct, concrete language
  • Avoid framing statements in the negative
  • Always state facts rather than beliefs.
